Who Goes there?!

Christopher M. Carter - Writer, Director, CINEMATOGRAPHER

Chris has written or co-written all of the feature films thus far. In addition to writing, directing and lighting, Chris operates the camera as well. While focusing mainly on traditional horror, sci-fi horror is a genre that he has always loved and wanted to explore.

Favorite Writer -

James Cameron - I think Cameron is magnificent in creating his world and the rules existing in that sandbox. The original Terminator, Avatar, The Abyss, Aliens. Enough said.

Favorite Director (Other than Steven Spielberg) -

Denis Villeneuve, John Carpenter

Denis has cerated some of the most jaw-dropping films I have ever seen. Whether it is crafting the unnerving tension of Sicario, following the footsteps of greatness in Blade Runner 2049 or the sci fi epic Arrival, Villeneuve creates fantastic worlds which are arguably, masterpieces.

Carpenter has directed five (5!!!) of my top 20 movies. The Thing is flawless, Halloween is iconic, Prince of Darkness blends horror and sci-fi and religion into a cocktail of perfection, The Fog is a campfire story that still horrifies to this day - Carpenter is a master storyteller!

Favorite Horror Movie -

The Thing - The Thing is so perfect for me, I loved the isolationsism, the camera angles of the approaching (but unseen) creature, the friction between the characters, the INCREDIBLE special effects and it has the best ending to any horror film I’ve ever seen. It’s perfect.

Favorite Non-Horror Movie -

As of this moment (yes it changes literally every hour) Raiders of the Lost Ark; Jaws, Arrival, Gravity.

Favorite Horror Villan -

Michael Myers; Headless Horseman

Favorite Movie Line -

“You’re going to need a bigger boat.” - Chief Brody, JAWS

Jessica Morgan - Director, Actor, Makeup Effects

Jessica co-directed Night of the Harvest and Dark Chronicles. She acted in all of the feature films and did the special effects makeup as well. She enjoys working on horror films that explore the human condition, but would love to do more horror comedy. She’s also a sucker for a good gorey kill/effect.

Favorite Director -

Mike Flanagan

Favorite Horror Movie -

The Conjuring 2 or Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil

Favorite Non-Horror Movie -

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Favorite Horror Villain -

Rose The Hat

Favorite Horror Death -

Hannibal (TV Series) Beverly Katz glass ‘display’

Favorite Movie Line -

“Sometimes dead is better” - Pet Sematary

Dustin Rieffer - Writer, actor, Director

A late bloomer to film, Dustin’s roots are in theatre; performing throughout college and in Tom Stoppard’s “Arcadia” with The Rogue Theatre. He joined the Carter Ink Films team for One Night in October and made the transition to film. His writing/directing debut came with the short “Santa’s Little Helper”, getting accepted by CryptTV. Other projects include: writer of “Murder a Friendship Story” which played at the Midsummer Scream Convention in Long Beach, and one of the writers and directors of Dark Chronicles. In addition, Dustin works behind the scenes on most Carter Ink Films Productions as a PA, Grip, and Sound.

Stylistically, he has an affinity for narrative and art horror, while also dabbling in horror-comedy.

Favorite Writer -

Martin McDonagh

McDonagh has continued to be my favorite writer since back in my theatre days. “The Pillowman” will forever live rent free in my head. McDonagh has such a unique humor and phrasing, while also handling disturbed situations. He will forever be an inspiration to me.

Favorite Director -

Robert Eggers, Trey Edward Shults, Sean Baker.

Robert Eggers ever so slightly tops the list for me. What he does with a low budget, and his attention to detail are marvelous. Aside from that, it’s the stories he chooses to tell that get me. Straight from history and folklore. Stylistically, he just matches so much of what I want to do.

I had to shout out Shults and Baker though. They are so close that I couldn’t leave them out. They convey a naturalness of life in their films that is beautiful and feels so grounded.

Favorite Horror Movie -

Let the Right One In

Grounded folk horror at some of its finest. I’ll be the first to admit it has become a little dated, but the story and the uniqueness it finds in some of the most used tropes has to be respected.

Favorite Non-Horror Movie -

The Wrestler, Waves, The Florida Project

This is an ever revolving door for me but these usually come up every time I think about this question. Huge fan of high emotion without the melodrama. Just empathetic commentaries of different courses of lives, and these are some of the best.

Favorite Horror Villan -

The Entity from It Follows.

Maybe some won’t consider this a villain but in terms of horror movies I would argue it is; and it is absolutely terrifying.

Favorite Movie Line -

Let the Right One In - Eli: Please Oskar... Be me a little.

A simple, yet profound call for empathy.
